no-no dancers in a white limited space Premiere: 08.11.1996 Studio Elsa, Helsinki City Theatre, Finland In 2008 HDC restaged Kenneth Kvarnström’s contemporary dance classic: no-no. This signaled Kenneth’s comeback as a choreographer after a six-year break. He considers no-no to be his most significant production, and the only one he wants to return to. Kenneth was the artistic director of Helsinki Dance Company in 1996–1997 and no-no was his opening work. It was an instant hit with both the audience and critics. Kenneth’s highly physical and poetic language of movement attracted new audiences and huge media attention. no-no toured successfully in Finland and in Denmark, England, France, Italy, Sweden in 1997-98. The new version was made for 10 dancers, while the original version involved seven. The sound world consists of mystic and religious echoes (both modern and traditional) from the Middle East and North Africa. Through the music score no-no is still very up-to-date and is interpreted in a different way due to the current political state we are in. no-no will be in HDC’s repertoire again from late autumn 2011. no-no will be danced in the original version for seven dancers.
